Green chilies: 2, finely chopped

Turmeric powder: 1/2 teaspoon

Red chili powder: 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to taste)

Coriander powder: 1 teaspoon

Cumin seeds: 1 teaspoon

Asafoetida (hing): a pinch

Garam masala: 1/2 teaspoon

Salt: to taste

Cooking oil or ghee: 2 tablespoons

Fresh coriander leaves: for garnish

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Preparation:

Wash the chana dal thoroughly and soak it in water for about 30 minutes.

Drain the soaked dal and set aside.

In a pressure cooker or pot, cook the chana dal with enough water until it's soft but not mushy. Set aside.

Cooking the Palak Chana Dal:

Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Add chopped onions, green chilies, and a pinch of asafoetida. Sauté until onions turn golden brown.
